Vodka O Australian GT Supports Telstra Child Flight
11.05.2010
Reigning champion David Wall and the entire field of exotic machinery that makes up the Vodka O Australian GT Championship will be engaging in some super fast 'low flying' to assist Australia's only emergency helicopter retrieval service especially for children and babies.
The Telstra Child Flight service that operates in regional NSW and the ACT has airlifted nearly 7,000 children and babies since it was first formed in 1989.
'It's a great charity that does fantastic work, but a helicopter service like this doesn't come without a lot of expense and that's why I am delighted that the Vodka O Australian GT Championship has appointed Telstra Child Flight as our official charity for the Eastern Creek and Bathurst rounds this year', Wall said
With his Porsche GT3 997 Cup S lined up alongside the Telstra Child Flight helicopter Wall learnt that last year (2009) a total of 358 retrieval flights were undertaken by the charity organisation.
Some recent Telstra Child Flight retrievals have involved taking a 9 year old boy from Nowra to Sydney Children's Hospital in 35 minutes, a 1 year old boy from Wollongong to Westmead Children's Hospital in 22 minutes, and a 6 week old girl from Wagga to Sydney Children's Hospital in 1 hour 35 minutes.
The individual cost of a single life saving mission can range between $8,000 and $16,000.
'That's a very good reason to support Telstra Child Flight. Very sick children and their families need this service, so we need to help raise more funds to keep this vital service in the air' Wall added.
Australian GT Director Rachael Wagg said that the Vodka O Australian GT Championship is very proud to be supporting Telstra Child Flight at both Round 3 Eastern Creek May 29-30 and Round 5 Bathurst October 7-10.
'We will be working with our loyal competitors, teams, supporters, partners and fans to help in any way we can. GT is planning some fundraising and awareness activities for both NSW based events and in doing so hope to raise the profile of the great work TCF do for the NSW and ACT community'
Cheryl Rose, CEO of Telstra Child Flight is thrilled to have the support of the Vodka O Australian GT Championship and urges everyone to 'please try and support the service in any way you can to help us continue to save young lives in NSW and the ACT.
