Another of the young New Zealand racing brigade to head to Australia, Kiwi Coulthard enjoyed a break out season in 2008 driving for countryman Paul Cruickshank.
Career high qualifying and race performances came in a season where the small single-car team proved itself to be more than capable of doing the job.
Born in England but raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Coulthard started his career in karts before moving into Formula Ford in his homeland.
A trip to the Australian GP support races at Albert Park in 2002 proved his worth on this side of the Tasman Sea before Coulthard jetted to England to compete in Formula Renault.
With his budget finished, Coulthard joined the Carrera Cup, finishing third and best rookie in 2004 before returning to finish the job and be crowned champ in 2005.
Signed to drive with Team Sirromet Wines, he shared a car with Alan Gurr and Steve Ellery in 2006 and again returned to drive the older model VZ Commodore for the Paul Morris owned team in 2007 before stepping out after Bathurst to concentrate on his ’08 assault.
He linked with countryman Paul Cruickshank and an ex-Craig Lowndes TeamVodafone BF Falcon proved to be a good choice as Coulthard finished in the top 10 on six separate occasions, including a brilliant fifth place on home soil in Hamilton, New Zealand.
In 2009 he returns with PCR in the new colours of Wilson Security and with a brand new Triple Eight built FG Falcon.
