Paul Cruickshank Racing began operations in 2003 as a two car team in the V8 Supercar Development Series. Paul’s relationship with Ross Stone provided PCR with the opportunity to purchase the team’s race cars from Stone Brothers Racing.
In 2004, PCR diversified by entering a car in the Carrera Cup Australia series after assisting Porsche New Zealand in the 2003 season. With two ex-Stone Brothers Racing V8 Supercars and one Carrera Cup Car, PCR were beginning to make their mark.
PCR efforts quickly translated into expansion which saw the team enter a second Carrera Cup Porsche for the 2005 season. Young guns Warren Luff and Phil Scifleet signed on to drive the V8’s while Jonathon Webb and James Cressey drove the Porsches.
After seven rounds in the development series, PCR had triumphantly secured podiums at all but one round. These outstanding results landed Luff and the team their first championship podium in second place, only 30 points behind Dick Johnson Racing.
The Porsches also had a great year with Webb taking a win, four podiums and one pole position of out of nine races. Webb finished third overall in the championship and received the Michelin Driver to Europe award.
In 2006 Paul Cruickshank Racing became a single car team and entered the V8 Supercar Championship Series with driver Marcus Marshall. They are the first team to make the graduation from the development series into the V8 Supercar series.
A shaky start to the season and a mishap at Bathurst forced the team rent a car in order to complete the year; things were looking grim. A new car was built in just six days for the Indy round and PCR began to see the results they had been working so hard for. With a number of top-20 finishes in the final races, PCR managed to secure a 14th position finish in the final race.
In 2006 the Carrera Cup team also underwent some changes and expanded the two car operation to three, including championship newcomer David Wall. The cup cars finished the year in second, fifth and seventh, and Wall was awarded Rookie of the Year and two podiums in the final round.
This year, PCR signed on V8 Supercar legend John Bowe to drive the V8 and assist in the overall preparation and set-up of the car. His Supercar and Touring Car knowledge has thus far been invaluable to the team. As a result, PCR has gone from strength to strength and cemented itself as a midfield contender in the V8 series.
The Carrera Cup team was refreshed this year with the inclusion of Bryce Washington, Aaron Caratti, Rookie – Michael Trimble and David Wall in the RDS Porsche. The teams’ goal for the year is to have all drivers in the top ten – every round. To-date this has been a realistic objective.
